Radioactive substances fell across eastern Japan following the accident at a Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant in March 2011. The ongoing decontamination work has created huge quantities of toxic waste. NHK has carried out a large-scale survey of local governments to find out where the waste is, how much there is and what is happening at the storage sites.
