It also turns out that McGuire is really Ugo, a native Padarian, who was originally tasked with assassinating the princess, but has switched sides in order to prevent his country from sliding into open civil war. Dolma has decided to join the traditionalists in order to eventually defeat them from within, knowing that she will otherwise not stand a chance without the support of her subjects. Fujiko and Ami evade the army with Lupin in their care, but Fujiko soon abandons the two to fend for themselves. Just before they can be captured, the king, assisted by the communications conglomerate Shake Hands, successfully stages a counter-revolution; and at that critical moment, Lupin finds himself confronted by Fujiko about his true feelings for her.
